In English and also in German, I offer these tours in Rhode Island of Newport and the Battle of Rhode Island (1778). For tours of Boston, Cambridge, Lexington, and Concord, please contact me at zilianf@aol.com or (C) 401.714.4667.


I. Scenic Tour of Newport & Its History: Harbor Front, Thames Street, Fort Adams, Ocean Drive, Bellevue Avenue, Washington Square, and return.

Duration: 1 hr 30 min.

Fee: $100/hr. ($200 minimum) In German: $125/hr

Note: Touring party is responsible for transportation. These fees apply to tours conducted before 5 pm.


II. Scenic Tour of Newport & Mansion: Scenic Tour (see above) + a Mansion (The Breakers, Marble House, Rosecliff, or The Elms)

Duration: 3 hrs (approx.)

Fee:  $100/hr. ($200 minimum) In German: $125/hr

Note: Touring party is responsible for transportation. Tourists must also pay the mansion entrance fee. 


III. Scenic Newport Tour + Lunch + Talk: I guide you on the Newport Scenic Bus Tour (Tour I), and then we have lunch at the Wyndham Newport Hotel, followed by one of my many talks, for example, “The History of Newport thru the Gilded Age,” or “The Queens of Newport’s Gilded Age.” (See: “Book a Talk”) The touring party is responsible for transportation and for the luncheon, which I shall facilitate.

Duration: 4 hrs (approx.)

Fee: $450. In German: $550. 

Note: Touring party is responsible for transportation and for the luncheon, facilitated by Fred Zilian.


IV. Colonial Walking Tour of Newport: This tour begins at Perrotti Park and ends at Trinity Church. It includes: Long Wharf, the Museum of Newport History, Washington Square, the Colony House, the White Horse Tavern, the Quaker Meeting House, the Wanton-Lyman-Hazard House, Touro Synagogue, the site of the founding spring, the Jane Pickens Theater, the Second Congregational Church, the Newport Artillery Company, & the Vernon House. In addition to the significance of these points of interest, narration will include: the founding of Newport, the 17th century Golden Age, the enslavement and the achievements of African-Americans, the impact of the Revolutionary War, the Gilded Age, and Newport in the modern era. 

Duration: 1 hr, 30 mins (approx.) 

Fee: $100/hr. ($200 minimum) In German: $125/hr.


V. The Battle of Rhode Island (1778)

This tour retraces the story of the Rhode Island Campaign in the Revolutionary War which took place during the British-German occupation of Aquidneck Island (1776-1779). It includes twelve stops throughout the island, beginning in Newport and ending in northeast Portsmouth. 

Duration: 3 & 1/2 hrs. (approx.)

Fee: $100/hr. ($200 minimum) In German: $125/hr.
